GOOD MORNING. WHERE THERE’S AROUND 250,000 BOOKS HERE AT THIS SALE. BUT DON’T JUST TAKE IT FROM ME. I WANT YOU TO TAKE A LOOK OF JUST HOW MANY BOOKS HERE ARE HERE FOR YOURSELF. THERE’S A LOT. AND ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITE THINGS IS THAT THERE’S A LOT OF GENRES, INCLUDING COMICS. AND, YOU KNOW, I’M A NERD, SO I’M VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. AND IT ALL BENEFITS THE LANCASTER PUBLIC LIBRARY. AND HERE WITH ME IS LEE CARLOS, WITH THE LIBRARY. NOW, LEE, HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS SALE FOR THE LIBRARY? THIS SALE IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR THE LIBRARY, AND WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS AND ALL OF THE HARD WORK THAT THEY PUT IN TO THIS SALE EVERY YEAR. YEAH, FOR SURE. AND IT’S 100% VOLUNTEER DRIVEN. LIKE YOU SAID. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT GO FROM THE SALE THAT GO INTO SOME OF THE PROGRAMS HERE AT THE LIBRARY? RIGHT. SO THIS SALE USUALLY RAISES AROUND $100,000, AND ALL OF THAT MONEY GOES BACK INTO LANCASTER PUBLIC LIBRARY, WHICH WE INVEST INTO THE COLLECTION AND PROGRAMS LIKE SUMMER READING, WHICH IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, WHERE WE OFFER DOZENS OF PROGRAMS TO KIDDOS AND ADULTS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY ALL SUMMER LONG. YEAH, FOR SURE. AND ANY AWESOME BOOKS THAT YOU’D LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT THAT COME OUT OF THIS THIS SALE OF YOURSELF. EVERY YEAR I GO STRAIGHT TO THE HARDBACK FICTION BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE MAYBE GOING TO FIND ONE OF THOSE NEWER PUBLISHED BOOKS THAT YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO GET AT THE LIBRARY, BECAUSE THERE’S SUCH A LONG HOLD LIST. YEAH, FOR SURE. THERE’S A LONG A VERY LONG LIST FOR SURE. THANK YOU. LEE. In Lancaster, the 69th annual Big Book Sale kicks off on Monday at Franklin and Marshall College, with all proceeds going toward the Lancaster Public Library.Around a quarter of a million books are on sale at this 100% volunteer-run event at the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center at F&M College. In addition to the books, guests can also buy vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks. Local authors will also be selling and signing their books at the event on Tuesday.More than 400 people were in line Monday morning waiting for the sale to open just before 7 a.m. The proceeds help fund the Lancaster Public Library's operating budget, collections and programs. Leigh Kaliss, the director of communications at the library, said one of the programs this event will help benefit the Summer reading program."We offer book suggestions to kids, adults and all ages," Kaliss said about the program.Kaliss said the sale raises around $100,000 for the Lancaster Public Library every year.The Big Book Sale runs from Monday to Wednesday at 929 Harrisburg Avenue, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It's open on the first day until 8 p.m.
